Bobby J is a New Orleans based singer and band leader who services communities of folk that enjoy singing, swinging, and dancing alongside engaging cover entertainment. He's old school, nostalgic you'd say. Let's be clear, he loves it all and does it all - r&b, Motown, pop, top 40, soul, funk, classics and more - but his heart gravitates to music that satisfies a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations. He mixes old and new, so expect a diverse presentation in music. He is accompanied by the Stuff Like That Band.

'Bobby J' Jordan of New Orleans, Louisiana is best known for his lead vocal contribution on commercial re-make recordings Every Time You Go AwayAin't No Woman Like My Baby, and Baby Come Back with former band Louisiana Purchase. He's categorized as an r&b singer and musician, but he's old school to mainstream with a gospel background. In fact, he says, "I choose not to give up the old for the new, especially when it relates to music. I'm old school, nostalgic I guess. Let's be clear, I love it all - r&b, Motown, pop, top 40, soul, funk, classics and more - but my heart gravitates to music that satisfies a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations."

From the 70's Jack the Rapper Convention and the Southern NACA Tour to recipient of the Gospel Is Alive Award from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, Inc., he's the sole entertainer selected (of 100 participants) to participate in the Small Business Revolution of America Series for tenacity in a small business.

Even after a music career that spans over better than five decades, he still hones his craft right in front of his audience, servicing thousands of clients for weddings, corporate, social events and more - to include the 2005 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the NBA All Stars, and BET Network.

Every musical experience is a personal one to which Bobby J assigns meaning and emotion. He's worked alongside numerous acclaimed artists -- Branford Marsalis, Michael ‘Patches’ Stewart (Al Jarreau), Cyril Neville, Larry Graham, Gladys Knight, the Pointer Sisters, Kool and the Gang, Air Supply, Billy Preston, Raheem Devaughn, Ashford and Simpson, the Drifters, the Dixie Cups, Pieces of a Dream, Usher, Rockin' Dopsie, Jr., Irma Thomas, Aaron Neville and the Neville Brothers, Ali Ollie Woodson, Peabo Bryson, Michael Henderson, Bobby "Blue" Bland, D. J. Rogers, Chuck Mangione, Patti Labelle, the BarKays and Margie Joseph -- to name a few.

Real Talk

Some big shoes to fill!

A phenomenal show...the best I've ever seen. You outdid yourselves!

Enjoyed you guys last night. Great job!

Last night was awesome; You deserved every bit of that. Congratulations!

Good Morning Bobby! Last night was magical!!!!! Not only did it showcase your talent, but it revealed how you affect an audience. From the day I started working with you years ago until last night, you have been a great friend. In other words, love you boy!!!!!

So proud of you!!! Love you!

The show was awesome...an impeccable performance; I was speechless!

I've been listening to Bobby J since I was 16 years old. He's better than ever. Performance was just as entertaining as the first time I heard him. It was perfect!

Really wonderful and full of heart!

I never fear musical challenges. I cover r&b, soul, funk, jazz, pop, standards, Motown, top 40, inspirational to gospel music and many other genres in between. I ‘play’ the audience —no set list, just live, engaging entertainment. I am able to do so because of the coterie of singers and musicians who accompany me. I call them Stuff Like That.

In 1990, when family and friends encouraged me to go solo, I was skeptical (though already envisioning an old school band that could meet the musical needs of diverse audiences).

So I put together an adept powerhouse 4-piece, broke out of the gate, and captivated listeners across the Big Easy, then regionally, and finally nationwide. I later enhanced the band with background singers and options on horns.

As Reuben DeTeige (Cox/WBOK) stated, Nothing spurs an emotional reaction like cover renditions by Bobby J & Stuff Like That Band”.

And that's what we do.

Today, I am recognized as one of the most diverse, dynamic and elite live entertainment service providers across not only New Orleans, but across America. Thirty-two years and counting, faces have changed but we maintain the same dynamic sound as before. We are the Bobby J & Stuff Like That Band, based in New Orleans, Louisiana, creating memorable entertainment experiences for any occasion.

For better than two decades, I was an active part of the music culture in New Orleans (a city in Louisiana recognized for its round-the-clock nightlife and vibrant live-music scene) playing drums with local r&b and jazz bands and for church and community choirs. But who would've thought I'd be honing my craft right - singing - in front of reveling audiences?

I remember wheeling my drum kit in a grocery cart to a corner tavern called Benny's in uptown New Orleans, never thinking of myself as a Jeffrey Osborne (LTD). But on a gig one night at a local hangout called the Nite Cap, I approached the stage to warm up, expecting my drums to be in tact from the night before. They weren't. The club's manager, who doubled as Cool Enterprise Band manager, had torn down my drums. Seeing the shock on my face, he walked over to me, led me to center stage, handed over a lead vocal microphone, and the rest is history.

Needless to say, the trajectory of my music career changed. In 1990, I birthed the idea of an old school band, bringing to fruition the Stuff Like That Band. We've serviced hundreds of families, social organizations, and corporations for high-end events and performed on stage with numerous acclaimed artists. Today, the we are recognized as one of the most diverse, dynamic and elite live entertainment service providers across not only New Orleans, but across America.

I participated in the Jack the Rapper Convention; made several NACA tours; sang lead vocals on commercial re-make recordings Every Time You Go AwayAin't No Woman Like My Baby, and Baby Come Back with former band Louisiana Purchase; performed on the r&b stage at the 2005 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival with my band Stuff Like That (est. 1990); was nominated and selected to the Small Business Revolution in America Video Documentary Series film.

I was co-featured on Offbeat Magazine (rear cover); was featured in Notes on New OrleansBIZ New Orleans, and Fundera Ledger with an honorable mention in UK Brides magazine.

In 2001, I received the Gospel is Alive Award from the Jazz & Heritage Foundation of America for my contribution and dedication to Gospel music.

I have serviced hundreds of families, social organizations, and corporations, to include Bet Network, Coca-Cola, the House of Blues, the NFL All Stars, Edison Electric Institute, the National Urban League, American Gas Association, and others, with "high-energy, diverse, dynamic, and elite entertainment", as one client wrote.

I showcased my talent alongside Larry Graham, Gladys Knight, the Pointer Sisters, Kool and the Gang, Air Supply, Billy Preston, Raheem Devaughn, Ashford and Simpson, the Drifters, the Dixie Cups, Pieces of a Dream, Usher, Rockin' Dopsie, Jr., Irma Thomas, Aaron Neville and the Neville Brothers, Ali Ollie Woodson, Peabo Bryson, Michael Henderson, Bobby "Blue" Bland, D. J. Rogers, Chuck Mangione, Patti Labelle, the BarKays and Margie Joseph, to name a few.

Every musical experience is a personal one to which I assign meaning and emotion because of many great influences...Kidd Jordan, Sammy Berfect, Ali Ollie Woodson, Maurice White, to name a few. As in the words of Emma Bombeck, “When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, 'I used everything you gave me'”.

I am 'Bobby J' Jordan, a current resident of New Orleans, Louisiana.

Being born and raised in a city known for its night life and vibrant music scene, it's nearly impossible not to connect.

Early on, I had a predisposition for playing percussion instruments, (I do in fact still play). While on a drumming gig, a club owner unveiled my vocal talent and ability to command any stage, pulled me to center stage, and the rest is history.

My music career has spanned over better than five decades. I've been told I shadow artists like Jeffrey Osborne and Uncle Charlie Wilson but I realize I am only being me because everyone else is already taken.

I’m proud of my accomplishments -  2001 Gospel is Alive Award, a 2005 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Fest performer, a 2014 Small Business Revolution of America participant, to list a few - having provided audiences with multiple genres of music and generally just singing audiences to a happier place. I must admit my musical preference is throwback simply because songs from the past stir powerful emotion. There’s so many good memories connected to the old school music. It renews the spirit when audiences can reflect on where they were and what they were doing when one of their favorites is played.

Yes, I’m old school...still polishing my shoes, starching my shirts, and creasing my slacks. And, after all this time, I still hone my craft right in front of my audience. And when I sing your favorite song, it's impassioned, it speaks to your heart.

I am 'Bobby J' Jordan. I am musically accompanied by a coterie of singers and players I call Stuff Like That Band, established in 1990.
